Hot off the coat tails of Japanese Garden Mandala, I decided to stitch one of the smaller mandalas. The sparklies are to die for on this one and the blues and greens meld together so beautifully for a serene setting.

I've been meaning to do this for a few years. It's one of DH's favorite animals and the only EMS baby he loves. Since I decided that 2010 will be a year that I'm going to try and stitch projects for loved ones, this was the first one I decided to accomplish. Isn't he too cute for words???!

Once Upon A Tree

It's finally framed! This is the Once Upon A Tree Sampler that was featured in 4 parts during 2009 of Just Cross-Stitch Magazine. And those who know me have no problem believing I changed every thread that was called for in the design. The piece was lovely as charted; however, I have a box of various silks and just pulled from the pile. It's hanging in my kitchen and I'm very pleased.

My first Mirabilia! :D I had so much fun with it, and I see quite a few more Miras in my future.

Some details of the original chart were changed, most notably the beads and kreinik colors on the yellow and teal dress. I preferred a cooler look for the teal dress and as such, switched out the gold beads and kreiniks for silver. I also preferred a more monochromatic look throughout and so the yellow dress has gold beads and kreiniks instead of the original teals.

ETA: I really love this fabric and wanted to show the most of it. So, we opted for no mat to showcase both the fabric and girls. We were very fortunate to have found this frame at our local Michaels and thought the style reminiscent of wood bark, which suits the whole setting of the piece.

She's finally done!!!! I'm extremely pleased with how she turned out. The colors are incredible in real life and the subtlety of the color blends are amazing. I did add one little thing to the chart and that is to backstitch her eyelids.

ETA 12/7/09: And framed. We picked the inner mat to match her skin tone and the outer mat is a deep burgundy velvet that plays off the dark tones in her hair and tail.

Every part of it was so much fun and I think I've definitely found a new love. ^.^ For the framing, I found a piece of framed art from Home Goods whose frame and mat were the perfect complement to this piece. Because the blackberries were built so high off the fabric, needed some spacers to set it apart from the glass, and this nice gentleman at Michael's gave me a length of it for free!! For Brenda.

This is Twinkle Twilight Patrick by Maria Van Scharrenburg. I finished it back when my daughter Vivienne was about 4 weeks old, Now she's nearly 3. humm, I rotated the view on this in Photobucket but it doesn't show up here! This is Angel of Grace by Lavendar & Lace and is the first cross-stitch piece I stitched for myself. It was finished in 1987 or 1988.

This is Angel of Light and I started her when my daughter was a baby so 1990/91 and I finished her when she was maybe 4? Every time she would see this one she would tell me that it was hers cause the angel has golden hair. My Father-In-Law always told my daughter that she had hair like spun gold, so she really liked this piece. Some day when she has her first home I'll give it to her.

This is Angel of Mercy and I'm not sure when it was stitched. There were so many years in there where work and family took up all of my time. The colors don't show up very well in this photo, I stitched this one on a light piece of eggplant linen and I changed her wings too; from a gold braid to I think 2 strands of gold blending filament and 2 strands of an iridescent BF.

This is Truth Storykeep by Sara Butcher. It's stitched 1x1 on 28 ct. Lugana. I just pulled the thread closest to my stitching on all 4 sides, pulled another thread (on all 4 sides) 5 threads from the edges. This let me fold it back for a nice edge all the way around and creates a nice seamless way to whip-stitch the piece closed.

This was a project I really enjoyed. It's still unframed! I love all kinds of stained glass hues because of their jewel-like colours, and this particular piece can be tracked to a stained glass piece by Louis Comfort Tiffany.

I sincerely think this is my favourite hardanger project, mainly because I chose my own colours. (I can't do white all the time!) and it reminded me of tropical trees with huge amounts of shade and bright coloured flowers, called Flame of the Forest, in Penang island where I was born.

This is another one of those charts I couldn't resist. Satish loves Paddington Bear, so I stitched this for his office. What should have been a quick 2-day stitch took me a few weeks because I would get so bored with doing the same color over and over again, I'd do 10 stitches and leave it for a week, until I gave myself a mental slapped to finish it.

Couldn't resist this one. She's just so pretty! We framed her up by using 2 bamboo placemats as the "matting" and laid the stitching on top of these. The color of the bamboo matches the brown shade in her dress perfectly.

There are 3 more to this set, all designed by Joan Elliott... maybe one of these days I'll add another to this collection.

This quick stitch consisted of about 50 colors, but the blends didn't come out well at all, especially in her face. The original looked like she got sun-burnt and her skin was peeling. This is a self-adjusted re-colored version around her mouth area, but I still think it looks pretty bad, albeit much better than the original.

I was very, very disappointed with how this one stitched up, and up to this particular piece, every other project has lived up to my expectation and their design photograph. I feel that this could have been charted sooooo much better, and wish that I could take all those hours I've spent on her back. :(

As is the trend in this household for oriental stitching, we made this into a scroll as well. This is truly reminiscent of a chinese painting in terms of the subject matter, and we found the most glorious 'emperor' yellow color fabbie to showcase the art.
